APU’s DIGITGAL Initiative Makes Waves in Coimbatore, India

22 – 25 February, 2024

Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU/APIIT) recently concluded a highly successful 3-day programme in Coimbatore, India, as part of its UNESCO-Chair initiative, DIGITGAL. The programme, jointly designed by DIGITGAL and SRCAS Coimbatore, was an intensive one, focusing on the four pillars of DIGITGAL: Driving Girls in Technology, Growth & Leadership.

The four pillars, namely GIST (Girls in STEM), GEMS (Girls in Entrepreneurship, Management & Sustainability), GROW (Girls in Resilience & Well-Being), and GIFT (Girls in Financial Technology & Literacy), formed the foundation of the programme. Students from SRCAS and APU presented stunning projects, showcasing their skills and potential in these areas.

APU’s faculty members, including Ts. Dr. Vinesha Selvarajah, Kavitha Arunasalam, Subaashnii Suppramaniam, Ts. Jonathan Kovilpillai, Vinorra Shaker, Meera Eeswaran, and Dr. Rajasekaran, added immense value to the training session with their expertise in various fields such as STEM, HR & Talent Leadership, Cyberpsychology, Financial Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Forensic Accounting, and Cybersecurity.

In addition to the training programme, APU representatives participated in multiple keynote sessions, talks, seminars, and meetings aimed at fostering collaboration with SRCAS and other universities visited during the trip. These included Jansons School of Business and their Women Cell effort, Krishnamal Coimbatore, KPR College of Arts & Science, and PSG Institute.

The efforts put forth by APU and SRCAS are expected to translate into positive outcomes in the near future, further strengthening the ties between the two institutions and promoting the cause of empowering girls in technology, growth, and leadership.

We extend our gratitude to the leads of this project, Abtar Kaur and Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman, for their continuous support in building our collaborations with DIGITGAL. Their dedication and vision have been instrumental in making this initiative a resounding success.

As APU continues to make strides in promoting gender equality and empowerment through the DIGITGAL initiative, we look forward to more such collaborations and programmes that will inspire and enable girls to reach their full potential in the fields of technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
