APU’s DIGITGAL Initiative Empowers Indigenous Youth in Gua Musang, Kelantan

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), successfully conducted the Digitally Intelligent Indigenous Youth Programme (DI2Y) in Gua Musang, Kelantan, from 6th to 7th December 2023. The programme, led by APU-UNESCO Chair’s DIGITGAL initiative, aimed to promote digital literacy among school teachers from indigenous schools, focusing on the areas of entrepreneurship, sustainability, and financial technology.
The two-day event proved to be a thrilling and rewarding experience for the training team, who worked diligently to mentor and guide the participating teachers. The programme was designed to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively integrate digital technologies into their teaching practices, with a special emphasis on fostering entrepreneurial mindsets, sustainable practices, and financial literacy among their students.
The DI2Y programme aligns with DIGITGAL’s mission of driving girls in technology, growth, and leadership. By empowering indigenous youth, particularly girls, with digital skills and knowledge, the initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and create equal opportunities for all.
The collaborative effort between MOHE and APU’s DIGITGAL showcases the commitment of both institutions to promote inclusive education and digital empowerment. The programme’s success in Gua Musang serves as a testament to the positive impact that such initiatives can have on underserved communities.
As the DI2Y programme concludes its first phase, the organizers are already looking forward to the next stages of the project. The valuable insights gained from the Gua Musang experience will be used to refine and expand the initiative, ensuring that more indigenous youth across Malaysia can benefit from the transformative power of digital literacy.
